Pork, Chicken, Beef & Eggs

FREE RANGE/PASTURED POULTRY

We raise a large number of broilers in our portable pasture pens each season.  Available whole frozen year round.  $6 per pound.

FORAGE RAISED PORK

We raise pigs from birth on forage, pasture and forest areas.  Supplemented with local grains.  Available by the half or the whole and some limited cuts. $3.50 per pound plus processing.

POULTRY EGGS

Our birds are housed overnight in chicken houses and released early in the morning for true free ranging all over the farmyard.  They are kept with the males so the majority of our eggs are fertilized.  We hatch out numerous clutches each year to replenish our older stock.  We keep the utility layers for 2-3 seasons before using them as stewing birds. Our heritage breeds are kept on as breeding stock long past their laying peak.

In the depths of winter we do add red heat lamps to keep the birds more comfortable.  We refrain from using white lights to stimulate their laying and allow to go through a natural molt cycle.

Free Range, Grain Fed, Natural Chicken Eggs $5.00 – medium  $6.00 – large  $7.00 extra large per dozen

  • from mixed flock of Ameraucana, Cucoo Maran, Danish Brown Leghorn, Rhode Island Red and Isa Brown.
  • fed local grains with a mineral and protein supplement

Free Range, Grain Fed, Natural Duck Eggs $8.00 per dozen

GRASS FED YAK

COMING 2017 – The yak is a livestock animal very well suited to our climate.  They eat 1/3 of what a similar size beef cow would.  They browse like a goat.  They also give us fibre for spinning.

Do you give your chickens purchased feed with soy in it?

    Reply

    • No we chose to mix our own chicken feed so it would not contain any soy products. We our feed depeding on season is comprised of just cracked whole wheat, rolled oats, rolled barley and alfalfa.
Because our hens are raised in unheated barns, we cannot offer eggs all year round. Our productin picks up by mid April and we will be back at the Hillhurst/Sunnyside this year with eggs and other products.

      thanks

Hello, I’m interested in your free range chicken eggs. It’s been quite hard to find pastured eggs in Calgary. If you could get back to me about the availability of your eggs, that would be great! thanks.

    • We are not able to offer our eggs year round as they are raised in unheated coops and with the lack of light in winter and cooler temps, our production can be unpredictable. The winter eggs we are able to produce are comitted to asmall group of Calgary families who have supported us over the years. Our production picks back up in April and we will be at the Hillhurst/Sunnyside market in May.

      Thanks
      Andrea

Would I be able to purchase 6 fertilized duck eggs from you to hatch in my kindergarten classroom? I would gladly return them to you after a couple of weeks.

    • Our ducks have not yet started laying this spring.
we keep an open flock of duck and chickens and do not normally candle our eggs as we sell them out so fast.
When would you be looking to get the eggs? Where are you located? we may be able to work something out.

That is great news! We are located in Lake Bonavista in Calgary at Sam Livingston school. We have 2 hovabators and would be setting up a live feed for our students to watch the whole thing unfold at home when are not at school. We are hoping to get 6 eggs that are already pipping or almost ready to hatch (a day or 2 out) around the beginning of May.

    • the duck eggs take 28 days to hatch. Between us and those I know, I should be able to get the eggs around the right time. Let me see what I can do and get back to you

Hello! I am guessing we are getting closer to hatching time….although it still isn’t looking like spring outside!!! Would you be able to contact my colleague, Andrea to talk about dates and make arrangements? She is full time and I am part time, so she will be easier to get ahold of. The school’s phone number is 403-777-6890 ext 2016. She will be here today and then back at work again on Monday.
